 In in DAW use the Windows WASAPI driver over direct sound, it is much better. ASIO is best, but that has limited specific drivers. Windows+R then run mmsys.cpl then for your normal listening playback device bring up properties, and then in advanced make sure everything is ticked (exclusive) and choose a better format eg 24 bit 48kHz. In your DAW, in the preferences for audio settings, set the driver to WASAPI. In in DAW use the Windows WASAPI driver over direct sound, it is much better.
